Aside from a few in-progress developments (generally the ones about hard disc size and file quality), some of these are laughable - I don’t think anyone will get sincerely nostalgic for first generation iPods and 128kbps, mis-tagged MP3s.

“I Wish It Was Christmas Today” - Horatio Sanz, Jimmy Fallon, Julian Casablancas, and The Roots
Having this posted online at 12:30 saved me an hour of sleep. This made me so happy that I won’t even make a fuss about that absurd feather in Casablancas’ hair.
So glad it's the shortest day of the year. Days...

On an entirely unrelated note, I feel like “My Frumpy Valentine” would be a decent zinger against a certain type of crappy shoegaze band.

Oh yeah, about that Vimeo thing. Putting big-label music in a video is copyright infringement. It sucks, but that’s the way it is.
It’s hardly Capitol Records’ fault that a bunch of internet people think they should be exempt from the terms that their beloved bands agreed to when they signed with the label, and it’s childish to blame Capitol for trying to enforce them. The...
Sometimes I don't understand people

Tonight, the woman in line in front of me at the grocery store tried to buy a single stick of butter. When the cashier incredulously asked her if she took it out of the box, she said yes like it was a perfectly normal thing to do. When she was then told that they don’t sell butter that way, she acted all bent out of shape and said that she guessed she could buy the whole box. ...

People often offer the argument that “good songs” are ones that sound good in acoustic arrangements. I disagree.
However, having your song sound phenomenal when played over the phone? Cue up “I Wanna Know Girls” and tell me that doesn’t sound like magic.

Don’t blame me - I voted for Kodos Ned Lamont.
PS - even Lieberman’s own “party” rebelled against him.

I've Missed You, Tumblr
I’ve been lurking on Tumblr for the past week or so - skimming posts but not posting.
Not tonight! I want to try out the iPhone app, so I’ll be documenting my night of baking and beer drinking. I’m an exciting dude, I know.
ALSO: Has anyone done much with Lala? I’m curious about it.
I must say I still agree with my opinions as quoted by Schneider, and I conclude...
– Who do you read? Good Roger, or Bad Roger? - Roger Ebert’s Journal
I really admire the way Ebert takes criticism of him in stride, handling it with respect for the dissenting opinion without backing down from what he thinks.
'Showin' Love' MP3 and Lyrics
thebasketballjones:
We’ve had a few people ask for this, so here it is: The Basketball Jones’ “Showin’ Love” .mp3. (Note: You download the song by clicking that link. It’s 901.71 KB of hot NBA love.)
Also, a few of the Mix Master Mikes out there left comments/tweets about remixing the song. We freaking the love the idea — it’s the Colbertian thing to do, you know — so we’ll look to get you...

Dave and Tom are having a great discussion concerning reading too much into songs or, as the case may be, not reading the song at all. I think this quote in particular sums up the main idea for me - if you can find it in the song,...

HRO’s commenters are DOING IT RONG
(via stryker)
Also feels like the sexism in that comment thread is kind of undercutting the parody here, which I’m second-guessing now. I’m not sure if I’d be more pissed to know that the commenters were “in on it” or serious, though I’m not convinced...
Meet Becca: A New HRO Blogger with a Female... →
The current run at HRO - Carles stepping down and being replaced by new bloggers - has been amazing. The only way this could get better was if the Idolator restaffing (and I unsubscribed so I have no idea what’s going on there) turns out to be a hoax on this level.
I was growing sick of HRO mainly because it’s inspired so many insipid imitators (which, on one level is unfair and on...
